AUBURN, Ala. - The second-ranked Auburn softball team fell for the first time at home in 2017 with a 1-0 defeat at the hands of No. 13 James Madison Sunday afternoon in its annual Pink Game. The Tigers (14-2) snapped a 13-game winning streak overall in the seven-inning affair.

"We knew [James Madison] had an extremely talented pitcher, we know that Makayla is the same," said head coach Clint Myers. "The big thing was who was going to be able to score. We played in six games [this weekend] and only gave up one run. The pitching has been solid for us. The defense has been solid for us. We've got to score some runs. We were not Auburn offensively [today]."
Makayla Martin went the distance in the circle and totaled four strikeouts. She allowed just one run on four hits in seven innings of work.
Auburn was held to a season-low one hit on the afternoon. Megan Good tossed seven innings and had 10 strikeouts for the Dukes (12-2).
Haley Fagan had the lone hit for the Tigers when she slapped a single to right field in the bottom of the fourth.
After the first two innings flew by with the two teams combining for two hits, James Madison scored the only run of the game on an RBI single up the middle.
Morgan Podany was the first Tiger to reach base when she drew a walk in the bottom of the third, but she was left stranded with the score 1-0 in favor of the road team.
Martin worked through the next four stanzas without allowing a hit, keeping Auburn within one in its final chance at the plate.
In the bottom of the seventh, Courtney Shea drew a leadoff walk and was pinch-ran for by Bree Fornis. She then worked her way to second on a wild pitch with no outs. However, the Tigers were unable to capitalize and were kept off the board.
Auburn returns to the field Thursday, March 2 when it takes on Liberty at 6 p.m. The game is set to be available on the SEC Network+.
