April 11, 2017 BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Outfielder Alyssa Rivera has been named the SEC Freshman of the Week, announced by the league office Tuesday. She is the third player to garner recognition from the conference this season, joining Haley Fagan and Carlee Wallace.
Rivera finished the weekend second on the team with a .500 batting average and tallied multiple hits in two of the three contests with Ole Miss.
The Eagle Lake, Fla. native plated the game-winning run in both victories over the Rebels and reached base safely in five of 10 plate appearances.
Rivera hit .429 with runners on base and .667 with runners in scoring position. The freshman also advanced runners at a .714 clip.
Rivera has stepped up her game against league foes in her rookie campaign. She leads the team with a .474 average versus teams in the SEC and is 9-for-17 with four RBI in her last five games, tallying four contests with at least two hits in the process.
Rivera and the Tigers continue their homestand with a non-conference game against Georgia State Wednesday. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. at Jane B. Moore Field.
