QUICK HITS
- Auburn traveled to Atlanta for the 2017 Hyatt Regency Invitational hosted by Georgia Tech. The Tigers finished 2-1 on the weekend, opening with a 3-0 win over the Yellow Jackets. The meeting marked the second-straight season the two squads met to open the year.
- Auburn followed with a three-set loss to then-No. 17 Michigan State before closing out the invitational with a 3-1 win over Furman. Both matches were played Saturday.
- Junior Brenna McIlroy and sophomore Shaina White were placed on the all-tournament team for the Tigers. McIlroy led the squad with 33 kills over 10 sets played, including a season-best 16 vs. Furman.
- White concluded the three-match invitational with a .605 hitting percentage, having just one error over two days. The middle blocker leads the conference in hitting efficiency.
- McIlroy and senior setter Alexa Filley each picked up a double-double against the Paladins. McIlroy had 13 digs to go with her 16, while Filley finished with 47 assists and 11 digs.
- Senior libero Jesse Earl had a solid weekend, finishing with 42 digs for a 4.20 digs/set average. In addition, she exceled from the service line and had a pair of aces in all three matches
SCOUTING ALABAMA STATE
- The Lady Hornets (2-0) were selected to capture the SWAC title for the second-consecutive season.
- The squad led the conference with five preseason All-SWAC Team selections - Briana Dorsey, Bayle' Bennett, Ni'yesha Brown, Justus Tuiolosega, Krysta Medearis.
- Dorsey was voted the Preseason Offensive Player of the Year.
- The Lady Hornets opened 2017 with a pair of victories, defeating Savannah State (3-0) and North Carolina A&T (3-2).
- Brown leads the team with 37 kills and a 4.63 kills/set average. Medearis is second at 3.13 kills/set.
- Payten Clark has a team-best nine blocks so far this season for a 1.13 blocks/set average.
A WIN OVER ALABAMA STATE WOULD...
- Be Auburn's seventh-straight victory over the Lady Hornets.
AUBURN-ALABAMA STATE SERIES
- Auburn is 8-3 overall against Alabama State in a series that dates back to 1975. The two teams have faced off in Auburn six times with the Tigers holding a 5-1 record on The Plains.
- The Lady Hornets last defeated Auburn in 1986, winning a pair of 2-0 neutral site matches.
- Four of the last six matches have been contested in Auburn.
