AUBURN, Ala. - Coming off a first-round win against Hofstra, Auburn soccer sophomore forward Bri Folds has been named to the Top Drawer Soccer National Team of the Week, it was announced Tuesday morning.
Folds scored the game-winning goal in the 64th minute of the Tigers' 1-0 win against Hofstra last Friday, marking her fourth goal of the season and second game-winner. She is the fourth member of the Tigers to be named to the National Team of the Week this season.
"Bri had one of the best games of her young career," said head coach Karen Hoppa. "Not only did she score the game-winning goal, but she was a consistent key to settling the game down and controlling our possession."
After the two teams battled to a hard-fought draw in the first 63 minutes of the match, Folds broke the scoreless tie with a left-footed strike. Senior forward Kristen Dodson took possession in the Auburn half and played Folds into the top-right corner of the 18-yard box. The Lakeland, Fla., native then cut to her left to avoid a Pride defender and bent a shot around the mitts of a diving Hofstra goalkeeper.
Folds' four goals this season are tied for second on the team while her six assists are tied for the team lead and her 14 points trail only Dodson (19).
Auburn's win against Hofstra marked the team's sixth straight in the first round of the NCAA Tournament since 2011. Additionally, the senior class became the first in program history to notch a win in the national tournament in all four season on The Plains.
Folds and the Tigers (8-6-5) head west for a second-round matchup against Stanford (19-1-0) Friday night. Kickoff at the Laird Q. Cagan Stadium is scheduled for 9 p.m. CT.
