ORLANDO, Fla. - Auburn men's golf sophomore Jovan Rebula has been named to the 2018 Arnold Palmer Cup International Team announced today at the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard at Bay Hill Club and Lodge. The annual Ryder Cup-style competition will be played July 6-8 at Evian Resort Golf Club in ÃÆ'Æ'ââ'¬°vian-les-Bains, France.
The 2018 Arnold Palmer Cup will be the first using the expanded format of United States men's and women's collegiate golfers versus their counterparts from around the world.
"I'm really happy for Jovan. It is indeed an honor for him to be chosen to the Palmer Cup," Auburn head coach Nick Clinard said. "He's played extremely well and I'm just thrilled for him to represent himself, his family and Auburn University at such a worldwide prestigious event. It's a well-deserved honor and an event that will create lifetime memories for him."
Rebula is the third Clinard-coached Tiger to play for the Palmer Cup as former All-Americans Blayne Barber and Michael Johnson both competed for team USA at the prestigious event. Barber played for the Cup twice in 2011 and 2012, while Johnson played for it following his record-breaking 2016 senior season.
Rebula, a product of George, South Africa, will become the first player to represent South Africa in the event.
Rebula has been rock solid in his sophomore season, averaging 70.38 strokes per round, which ranks second on the team and is the only player on the team to have counted all 21 rounds he has played. He has finished in the top 20 in 6-of-7 events played, including back-to-back top-10s in the most recent events, tying for fourth at the All-American and tying for eighth at the Tiger Invitational.
Rebula is one of six men's international players selected based on their Palmer Cup Rankings joining Fredrik Nilehn (Texas Tech/Sweden), Viktor Hovland (Oklahoma State/Norway), Alvaro Ortiz (Arkansas/Mexico), Stefano Mazzoli (TCU, Italy) and Lorenzo Scalise (Tennessee/Italy).
