AUBURN, Ala. – The Auburn women's tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision to No. 1 Georgia Sunday afternoon at the Yarbrough Tennis Center.
Georgia jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, claiming the doubles point with wins on courts 2 and 3. The Tigers' No. 1 doubles team of Madeline Meredith and Taylor Russo were tied 3-3 with their opponent when play was halted.
In singles, Georgia got wins at the Nos. 3, 4 and 5 singles positions to clinch the victory. Meredith had fought her way to a first-set tiebreaker on court two and Jaeda Daniel was battling the nation's top-ranked player on court one when the match was clinched.
The Tigers are back in action next weekend on the road when they travel to No. 4 South Carolina on Friday and No. 31 Florida on Sunday. Friday's match is set for a 4 p.m. start in Columbia, and Sunday's match in Gainesville will begin at noon.
