AUBURN, Ala. – With the SEC championship less than two weeks away, the No. 14 Auburn women's golf team is gearing up for a postseason run. That begins this weekend when the Tigers play in the Clemson Invitational.
The event, which runs from Sunday to Tuesday, will be played at The Reserve at Lake Keowee (Par 72, 6,260 yards). It's both a new tournament and a new course for Auburn.
"We are looking forward to participating in a new tournament held at The Retreat at Lake Keowee hosted by Clemson," Auburn head coach Melissa Luellen said. "We have a different lineup this week and a new course to learn. I've heard great things about the course. We are also looking to put ourselves in a position to win the final round. We will have to battle through some rain and wind to get to our goal."
The lineup for this tournament will be without Kaleigh Telfer as the Auburn sophomore is set to wrap up play in the inaugural Augusta National Women's Amateur on Saturday.
Taking her place will be freshman Chandler Rosholt, who will be making her debut in the team lineup. Rosholt has taken part in four tournaments as an individual, including the Evans Derby Experience last week where she finished tied for 38th on the player leaderboard.
Sophomore Julie McCarthy, who finished in a tie for third at Evans Derby, will once again take the No. 1 spot in the lineup for Auburn. Next will be fellow sophomore Mychael and then a pair of freshman, Brooke Sansom and Rosholt, at No. 3 and No. 4. The fifth spot goes to junior Elena Hualde Zuniga, the most experienced of the bunch.
The 18-team field for Clemson Invitational includes five teams ranked in the top 25. The top-ranked team in the event is No. 5 Florida State, who won the Evans Derby Experience.
Auburn will be paired with No. 17 Virginia and Indiana for Sunday's first round and will tee off beginning at 7:39 a.m. CT. Live scoring is available on Golfstat.com.
