Freshman Lily Beatty traded in the sand and surf for the Plains of Auburn when she chose to join the Auburn equestrian program. With the goal of medical school, the Stuart, Fla., product is thankful to a part of an amazing team.
Q: What were some of the reasons you chose Auburn?
A: I chose Auburn because of the great academics and how beautiful and welcoming the campus is.
Q: What does the Auburn Family mean to you?
A: Auburn Family means that we are all here for each other if someone needs it and that we are all very close to each other.
Q: What are some memorable moments for you at Auburn?
A: Some of my favorite moments are being at meets with my team and being with the people I love the most.
Q: What are some of your favorite things about equestrian?
A: I love how close we are as a team and how everyone is nice and gets along with each other eve though we are part of such a big team. I love being around the unit and doing what I love
Q: Who are some of the funniest teammates?
A: Caroline Hudon, Boo Kammerer, and Helen Ulrich
Q: What are some of the biggest differences transitioning from high school to Auburn? Both athletically and academically?
A: I like being able to choose times for my class schedule and being on my own. Riding in college is different because you are with a team instead of riding alone at my barn. Team workouts are also new for me and I think it is very to fun to be working out with all of my friends.
Q: What's your hometown and try to describe it.
A: Stuart, Florida- it is a small city in southern Florida. We live on the coast so I am about three minutes away from the beach. We go fishing and go to the beach a lot and it is just a really nice and cute place to live
Q: What does it mean to compete in equestrian for Auburn University?
A: It means so much to me because this is a goal I have had for a very long time. People around me told me that I would not be able to get on this team so it is very special and I feel very blessed to be a part of this.
Q: What are your individual and team goals this season and beyond?
A: My individual goals are to keep my grades up and keep working towards going to medical school. My team goals are to keep doing my best to help the team be the best we can be and to be the best teammate possible for the girls.
Q: What are your hobbies outside of competing/practicing and school?
A: Fishing and going on the boat
Q: What is your major and do you have any plans set for what you want to do after graduation?
A: My major is neuroscience and I plan on going to medical school to eventually become a neurosurgeon.
Q: What's your favorite part of Auburn's campus?
A: I really like the stadium and the energy it has during every game
Q: Where is the weirdest place you've heard War Eagle?
A: In the middle of Europe.
Q: Describe what it's like being on Head Coach Greg Williams' team.
A: it is very surreal for me and I am thankful every day that I was given this amazing opportunity. He is an amazing coach and I love being on his team and riding for him.
Q: If you were stranded on an island, what five items would you bring (no cellphone)?
A: A knife, a tent, a blanket, a filtering water bottle and a flashlight.
Q: What three people would you bring if you were stranded on an island?
A: Both of my parents and my brother- they would know what to do.
Q: What are your favorite movies and television shows?
A: I like any Christmas movie and my favorite show is The Office.
Q: What's the best advice you've ever received and who gave you that advice?
A: My mom always tells me to never worry about how others view you and to always put myself around people who will put in the effort to see me- to not waste my time on people.
