AUBURN, Ala. – Following an outstanding junior season, Auburn's Kaleigh Telfer was selected as a First Team All-American by the Women's Golf Coaches Association on Tuesday.
Telfer wrapped up the 2019-20 season with three top-10 finishes, including an individual win at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge in February. It was her second career tournament victory and first outright. She finished the campaign with an average score of 71.95 per round and her career average through three seasons (73.33) ranks second in program history.
"I'm thrilled for Kaleigh," Auburn head coach Melissa Luellen said. "It's just such an honor for her to be recognized as truly one of the top players in the country. Her game has gotten better every year that she's been at Auburn, and I personally don't even think she's come close to playing her best golf."
This spring, Telfer was also selected to play in the 2020 Augusta National Women's Amateur along with teammates Megan Schofill and Julie McCarthy, and she and Schofill recently made the roster for this year's Arnold Palmer Cup as well.
For Auburn, it's the second straight year the program has had a WGCA All-American. McCarthy earned Honorable Mention honors for her efforts last year.
"I love the fact that we're getting recognition," Luellen said. "When coaches say they need four years to elevate a program, you need four years to do that. To me, I feel like we're a little bit ahead of where I thought we would be, but there's a reason why we've continued to get accolades. It's because these young ladies on the team have such high character. They want it really bad. Those kids are making our program look good and be respected."
Telfer is the 19th Auburn women's golfer all-time to be named an All-American and the first to be a First Team selection since Cydney Clanton in 2010.
