AUBURN, Ala. – The Auburn gymnastics team enters the week at No. 7 per RoadToNationals.com. The weekly rankings are based on the overall team score from the season-opening weekend.
The Tigers had a big meet on the road at then-No. 15 Arkansas, topping the Razorbacks with a 197.250-197.200 win. That score marked the second-highest road score in program history and was also the fifth-highest score in program history.
"We're happy to be ranked this high, but the most important thing is that we had a fantastic road score this early in the season," head coach Jeff Graba said. "Our team should take away a big of confidence from this past weekend and hopefully we can continue to progress this week."
The top five teams remain relatively the same. Michigan remains No. 1 with Utah moving up to No. 2. Florida is third with Oklahoma and LSU ranking fourth and fifth, respectively. Missouri and Kentucky are in spots eighth and ninth, while Alabama is 10th. Arkansas moved up to No. 11.
Auburn ranks sixth on vault (49.250) and moved up in the other three categories. The team is ninth on beam (49.163), 14th on floor (49.125) and 15th on bars (49.113).
Individually, Piper Smith and Sophia Groth are ranked tied for ninth on bars and beam, respectively. Fifth year Drew Watson tied for 18th on vault and senior Derrian Gobourne is tied for 19th on floor.
The Tigers open their home schedule Friday, Jan. 21, against Iowa State. Auburn and the Cyclones will face off at 7 p.m. CT in Auburn Arena and the meet will be streamed on SEC Network+.
