AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn men's golf returns to action Monday in the inaugural Nexus Collegiate in New Providence, Bahamas. The Tigers will play host to nine universities all hoping to take home the tournament crown.
"We're very excited to be able to host the first Nexus Collegiate," Auburn head coach Nick Clinard said. "It's a great course, and there are some strong schools joining us in the field. It's going to be the perfect opportunity for us to continue to build our strength and gain more valuable reps."
Last time out, the Tigers finished 16-under-par in a loaded field at the Amer Ari Invitational. Junior Austin Coggin led the way, firing a 205 (-11) to finish inside the top 10. Coggin returns to the Auburn lineup this week, making his sixth consecutive trip of the year.
Also back in the Tiger lineup is the freshman duo of Brendan Valdes and Evan Vo, both of which shot below par in Hawai'i to contribute to Auburn's final tally. Vo and Valdes rank first and third, respectively, amongst all Southeastern Conference freshmen in scoring average thus far this season.
Junior Alex Vogelsong will make his spring debut this week. The Palm City, Florida product chipped in a top-15 finish at the Isleworth Collegiate to close out the fall slate. Vogelsong also boasts a 71.46 career scoring average, the third lowest in program history.
Rounding out Auburn's seven-man squad for the week is junior C.J. Easley and sophomores Carson Bacha and J.M. Butler. Butler enters play on the watch lists for both this year's Fred Haskins Award and Ben Hogan Award following a stellar start to the 2021-22 season while Easley and Bacha both turned in career-low single-round performances during the team's last taste of competition at the Amer Ari Invitational.
Auburn will be paired with The Ohio State University and Charlotte to begin tournament play. The Tigers will tee off on the first five holes beginning at 6:45 a.m. CT.
