AUBURN, Ala. – The Auburn women's golf team earned a bid to the NCAA Regionals for the 27th time in program history Wednesday and will travel to Oklahoma State as the No. 4 seed in the NCAA Stillwater Regional.
The Stillwater Regional is one of six regional tournaments this year and will be conducted May 9-11 from Karsten Creek Golf Club. There are 12 teams in each regional, and the top four teams and top two individuals (not on an advancing team) will advance to the NCAA Championships on May 20-25 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.
"It was evident by the team's cheers when the Golf Channel announced the field that we were excited to be selected to the Stillwater Regional," Auburn head coach Melissa Luellen said. "Kaleigh Telfer played at Karsten Creek as a freshman and led the team in scoring.
"The course is very difficult, which separates the field and I feel plays to our advantage. The grasses are similar, and we don't have to change time zones. We will continue to prepare and will be ready when the flag goes up."
Auburn, coming off a stroke play title at the SEC Championship, is ranked No. 19 nationally on Golfstat and is one of five teams in its regional ranked in the top 30, joining No. 6 Oklahoma State, No. 7 Arizona State, No. 17 Baylor and No. 30 Michigan State.
The rest of the 12-team field includes Clemson, Campbell, Furman, North Carolina State, California, Tulane and Illinois State.
The Tigers have advanced through to NCAAs in each of their last three regional appearances, including last year when they finished tied for fourth at the NCAA Louisville Regional.
Luellen, a native of Oklahoma, took her Auburn team to Stillwater and Karsten Creek Golf Club for the 2018 NCAA Championships where the Tigers finished tied for 15th. Telfer was the only current member of the team to play in that tournament.
