Former Auburn men’s tennis standout Tim Puetz and doubles partner Kevin Krawietz defeated Gael Monfils and Edouard Roger-Vasselin of France in the second round of the men’s doubles Olympic event in Paris on Tuesday morning by a 6-3, 6-1 score.

Puetz and Krawietz earned a break in game six of the opening set to take a 4-2 lead. Monfils and Roger-Vasselin responded with a break of their own before the German pair won the next two games to claim the first set. After the French duo held serve through the first game of the second set, Puetz and Krawietz caught fire and won the next six consecutive games to win the match in straight sets.

In the dominant victory, the German doubles team won 54 percent of its points in return games and 68 percent of points on serve. Through two matches, Puetz and Krawietz have not dropped a set at the 2024 Olympic Games.

With the win, the tournament’s two-seeded team will advance to the quarterfinal round and face Tomas Machac and Adam Pavlasek of Czechia on Wednesday morning. The match is scheduled to begin at 6:30 a.m. CT and will be streaming on Peacock.
