GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Auburn track and field continued its strong start to the outdoor season, capturing four event wins and one relay victory at the Florida Relays at the Percy Beard Track at James G. Pressly Stadium.
Over the two-day meet, the Tigers recorded 15 new personal bests and tallied 13 podium finishes in a balanced team performance.
Auburn sprints continued its hot start with two individual event wins and four new personal bests over the weekend, highlighted by standout efforts by junior Ja’Kobe Tharp and senior Danae Nembhard.
In just his second collegiate 200m race, Tharp claimed victory with a personal best time of 20.61. Sophomore Mekhi Dupree joined him on the podium, finishing third in 20.67.
On the women’s side, Nembhard captured gold in the 100m hurdles with a personal best 12.93, marking the third fastest time in the NCAA this season.
The men’s 4x100m relay team of Tharp, Omari Lewis, Austin Kresley, and Dupree also delivered, earning the win while posting the second-fastest time in the NCAA this season.
The field events dominated over the weekend and were highlighted by wins in the women’s shot put and discus throw. Senior Megan Hague picked up right where she left off from the indoor season, as she took gold in shot put with a new personal best mark of 17.87m/58-7.5, the top mark in the NCAA this season.
Sophomore Camryn Massey secured her first collegiate victory in the discus with a throw of 51.36m/168-6. In her second collegiate meet, freshman Norah Lind recorded a new PR in the women’s hammer throw and became the No. 6 Performer in AU history.
On the men’s side, senior John Leonard earned bronze in the men’s hammer throw with a mark of 65.15m/213-9, making him the No. 7 performer in Auburn history in the event. Fellow senior Seth Allen turned in another impressive performance in the discus throw, setting a new personal best mark of 61.63m/202-2, earning second in the process. Junior Matthew Rueff added silver in the shot put invite with a throw of 18.93m/62-1.25.
In the middle-distance events, sophomore Camila Gomes etched her name into the record books, recording the third-fastest times in Auburn history in the women’s 800m (2:03.95) and in the women’s 1500m (4:13.00).
Freshman Ibukunoluwa Daramola earned silver in the men’s long jump with a personal best 7.70m/25-3.25, while senior Aaron Davis finished eighth with a mark of 7.13m/23-4.75.
In the women’s 3000m steeplechase, junior Hallie Porterfield claimed bronze with a personal-best 10:42.67. Junior Evan Hill also finished third on the men’s side.
Junior Max Hardin finished second in the 1500m invite and set a new personal best time of 3:39.95. Sophomore Nickson Chebii crossed in 3:41.83, finishing eighth.
Auburn returns to action April 16 for a split weekend, competing at the Wake Forest Invitational in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and the Tom Jones Invitational in Gainesville, Florida.
