BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Ellie Rebmann’s goal in the 55th minute lifted the Auburn women’s soccer team to a 1-0 road victory at UAB on Thursday night at PNC Field.
Rebmann’s first goal as a Tiger was assisted by Ava Caldwell and the Tigers remain unbeaten on the season at 4-0-2, while tallying their fifth shutout of the season.
“This was a hard-fought road win where we grinded out the result,” head coach James Armstrong said. “They showed a lot of character throughout the game to create a number of chances and keep another clean sheet.”
The two sides played a scoreless first half, then Rebmann found the back of the net to break the tie 10 minutes into the second half.
The Tigers controlled play throughout the game by outshooting the Blazers 15-7 and holding a commanding lead in corner kicks, 16-3.
Auburn’s defense was once again elite by blanking UAB for its fifth clean sheet in six games, while Ayana Yapo tallied her fourth shutout of the year.
UAB falls to 1-4-1 on the year.
The Tigers conclude their non-conference schedule with a return trip to Birmingham to play at Samford on Sunday night at 5 p.m.
