Matt Smith is a dedicated sports performance professional with a decade of experience and a passion for developing a high-performance culture at Auburn University Athletics. As the Assistant Director of Olympic Sports Performance, Matt specializes in creating and implementing research-based strength and conditioning programs for multiple time SEC Champion and 2024 NCAA champion men’s golf, 2019 SEC champion women’s golf and soccer, focusing on athlete development through strong relationships and innovative training systems.

Since joining Auburn in 2014, Matt has played a pivotal role in the success of his teams, contributing to achievements like the 2024 SEC and NCAA Championship titles for Men’s Golf, the 2024 NCAA regional championship in Women’s golf and multiple SEC and NCAA tournament appearances with soccer. 

Previously, Matt served as a Graduate Assistant Sports Performance Coach, where he designed training programs for various sports, including track and field whose Men finished as high as fifth at NCAA outdoor championships and had multiple individual medalists in both SEC and NCAA appearances. He has a rich background in sports performance, having directed training camps and worked closely with student-athletes at various levels.

In addition to his coaching responsibilities, Matt is committed to mentoring the next generation of sports professionals through supervising interns and collaborating with Auburn’s Kinesiology Department. He also helps manage performance facility operations, ensuring optimal training environments for athletes.

Matt's dedication to excellence in sports performance is reflected in his numerous achievements, including multiple SEC championships, an NCAA championship and many individual accolades. His innovative approach and commitment to athlete well-being continue to foster a thriving competitive spirit within Auburn University Athletics.
