Desmond Morgan joined the Auburn Football staff in January 2026. He serves as
assistant safeties coach.

Morgan comes to Auburn following four seasons as safeties coach and senior
defensive analyst at Memphis. During that time the Tigers won 36 games and
reached four bowl games.

In 2025, Memphis won eight games and reached the Gasparilla Bowl. Morgan
helped coach at defensive backfield that ranked 28th in the country in
interceptions (12), 32nd in red zone defense (0.794) and 47th in scoring defense
(22.5).

The 2024 season featured an 11-2 record and a final ranking of No. 23, capped by
a 42-37 Scooter's Coffee Frisco Bowl victory over West Virginia. His safeties
anchored a defense ranking first nationally in fumbles recovered (15), second in
turnover margin (1.38), and 10th in turnovers gained (26). Senior Greg Rubin tied
for fifth nationally in forced fumbles (4), while Davion Ross earned First Team
All-AAC honors.

In 2023, Morgan contributed to a 10-3 season and 36-26 AutoZone Liberty Bowl
win over Iowa State, with Memphis ranking fourth nationally in fourth-down
defense (.290) and 15th in defensive touchdowns. Senior Simeon Blair garnered
Third Team All-AAC recognition with 63 tackles and two fumble recoveries.
Morgan's 2022 debut season saw Memphis defeat Utah State 38-10 in the
SERVPRO First Responder Bowl, with the defense ranking 10th in interceptions
(16) and 24th in turnover margin (.46). Quindell Johnson earned First Team All-
AAC honors.

Before Memphis, Morgan spent two seasons at Indiana State (2020-21) coaching
linebackers and coordinating special teams. True freshman linebacker Geoffery
Brown led the team with 60 tackles in 2021, earning MVC All-Newcomer Team
and Phil Steele Third Team Freshman All-American honors.
Morgan's career includes stints at Minnesota (2019, quality control/special teams),
Maryland (2017-18, graduate assistant), and Wayne State (2016, graduate
assistant).

A native of Holland, Mich., he graduated from Michigan in 2015. He started more
than 40 games for the Wolverines at linebacker from 2011-15. He was a two-time
semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy, given to the top football scholar-
athlete in the nation.
