Education: Dr. Jack Howard earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology from Spring Hill College in May 2015, where he also competed as a member of the baseball team. He earned his Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2017 and his Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2021. Dr. Howard also completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Stanford University with a specialization in Sport and Performance Psychology in 2022. He is currently working toward his Certified Mental Performance Consultant® certification.

Job Responsibilities: Jack takes an integrated approach to student-athlete mental health and works with student-athletes on the full spectrum of well-being from performance enhancement to clinical mental health concerns. He provides individual services and team consultation, consults with athletic department staff on student-athlete mental health needs, and develops psychoeducational and outreach programming.  

Past Experience: Jack comes to Auburn from the Stanford University’s Athletic Department, where he provided individual and group mental health and performance enhancement services to Stanford student-athletes. He also served as a consultant with the eating disorders treatment and sport psychiatry treatment teams, created and presented psychoeducational content for student-athletes and staff, and researched facets of student-athlete wellness such as burnout and mental toughness. Prior to Stanford, he completed his pre-doctoral internship at NC State University with an emphasis in sport psychology and addictive behaviors. Furthermore, as part of his doctoral training at Southern Miss, he worked as a Mental Performance Coach providing performance enhancement services to Southern Miss student-athletes and athletic teams. 

Personal: A native of Alpharetta, Georgia, Jack enjoys playing and watching sports, spending time with family and friends, and enjoying the outdoors with his partner and little dog, Blue.
