Began at Auburn: November 2024 

Education: Dr. Smith graduated from Auburn University in 1988 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. She went on to earn a Master of Science in Clinical Psychology from the University of Central Florida in 1991. In 2025, Dr. Smith completed her Ph.D. in Adult Education in the Educational Foundations, Leadership, and Technology Department at Auburn University's College of Education. Her areas of expertise include Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and its implications for inclusive practices in higher education.

Job Responsibilities: As a Learning Specialist,  Dr. Smith collaborates with Athletics Department staff and campus colleagues to provide tailored services that meet the unique needs of student-athletes across all teams. Her work focuses on supporting their academic and athletic development, addressing the specific challenges they face.

Past Experience:
Dr. Smith has a strong background in mental health, K–12 education, guidance counseling, and academic advising. She began her career in post-secondary education in 2011 as a Counselor for Students with Disabilities, where she gained extensive experience supporting students’ academic and personal success. Since returning to Auburn University in 2016, she has served as a Student Services Coordinator, Academic Advisor, and now Learning Specialist, guiding students, particularly student-athletes, through the challenges of university life. In addition to her work in student services, Dr. Smith is an experienced educator and college instructor. She has taught undergraduate courses in psychology and designed curriculum and workshops on topics such as Universal Design for Learning, academic success strategies, and inclusive practices in higher education.

Personal: Dr. Smith, a former Auburn gymnast, is married to Tom, also an Auburn graduate, and they have four adult children. As a lifelong Tiger, Dr. Smith is excited to help Auburn student-athletes succeed in both their academic and athletic pursuits.
