PositionAssistant Offensive Line

Micah James joined the Auburn Football staff in January 2026. He serves as
Assistant Offensive Line coach.

He comes to Auburn with more than a decade of experience including the last
two seasons as running backs coach at USF. He joined Golesh’s staff in Tampa
after one season as an analyst at Tennessee in 2023 and two seasons as offensive
line coach at Utah State (2021-22).

At Utah State (2021-22), James contributed to the program's most successful
season in school history. The Aggies tied their school record with 11 wins (11-3),
won their first Mountain West Championship with a 46-13 road victory at No. 19
San Diego State, and defeated Oregon State 24-13 in the LA Bowl to finish ranked
24th nationally. Behind James' offensive line coaching, Utah State set six school
records, including 41 touchdown passes and 4,248 passing yards. The Aggies
finished 15th nationally in passing offense (303.4 ypg) and were the only team
with three players recording at least 10 touchdown receptions. Two offensive
linemen earned honorable mention all-MW honors under his guidance.

During his two years at UMass (2019-20), James developed Larnel Coleman, who
earned Outland Trophy Watch List honors and Phil Steele All-Independent
recognition, and Dalton Tomlison, a Rimington Trophy Watch List selection. The
offensive line reduced sacks allowed by 69.2 percent in his first season despite
replacing four starters.

As a graduate assistant at UCF (2018), James helped the Knights to a 12-1 record,
an AAC Championship, and a Fiesta Bowl appearance. At Maryland (2017), he
assisted in developing receiver D.J. Moore, who earned first-team all-Big Ten
honors.

James began his coaching career at Arkansas State (2014-15), helping the Red
Wolves to a 16-10 record, back-to-back bowl games, and a 2015 Sun Belt
Conference Championship.

As a player, James completed an All-Sun Belt Conference career at Middle
Tennessee in 2012, earning first-team honors as a team captain. He started all 12
games at center, was part of a line ranked second nationally in fewest sacks
allowed, and recorded 78 knockdowns.

A native of Hoschton, Georgia, James earned a degree from MTSU in 2012.
