AUBURN, Ala. - Auburn cross country will host its lone home meet of the season this Friday at Conway Acres Farm.
Both the men's and women's teams had a successful first weekend, picking up team wins at the Troy Invitational, as well as an overall win in the women's race by sophomore Elizabeth Briasco.
"Both teams recovered well from our opening meet at Troy last weekend and are confident going into our home meet on Friday," head coach Mark Carroll said. "Workouts went very well this week and we will be running full teams this weekend on our home course."
The men's team will add a pair of talented runners for the home meet with the highly-touted duo of international runners - Niklas Buhner (Germany) and Kane Grimster (Australia) will see their first cross country action for Auburn.
"On the men's side Niklas Buhner and Kane Grimster will debut in cross country as Auburn Tigers and will contend for the individual title," Carroll said. "They will lead our challenge for a home win."
The Tigers will contend with several talented teams as Florida State, Kennesaw State, Georgia State and Southern Miss are scheduled to be among the competing squads. Additionally, in-state opponents Samford, Troy, UAB and Alabama State will compete.
With the tough competition descending on The Plains, Auburn is aiming to continue the success it experienced last week in the opening meet.
"Briasco and Alissa Fisher will face tough competition and aim to continue with another strong run following last week's 1-2 finish at Troy," Carroll said.
The women's race is scheduled to begin at 5:15 p.m. and the men will follow at 5:45. Conway Acres Farm is located at 2038 Lee Co. Road 137 in Auburn.
