AUBURN - Auburn cross country swept the men's and women's championships and sophomore Kane Grimster won the men's individual title at the 2012 Auburn Cross Country Invitational on Friday afternoon at Conway Acres Farm.
"We ran excellent today," Auburn cross country coach Mark Carroll said. "We did well on this same course last year, but to win both events as a team this year was a great step up for us."
Kane Grimster and Niklas Buhner finished 1-2 in the men's 6k race. Grimster set a new personal best with his mark of 19:03.8, while Buhner's mark of 19:04.5 was his best since last year's home event. Griffin Jaworski made it three Tigers in the top four with a fourth-place finish in 19:19.2, also a new personal best.
Junior Samuel Mueller (19:26.4, new PR) kept Auburn's strong day going with a sixth-place finish and newcomer Francis Hernandez (eighth place, 19:37.1) wrapped up the scorers for the Tigers. Auburn won the men's title with 21 points, ahead of Kennesaw State (54 points).
In the women's race, junior Alissa Fisher finished fourth and was Auburn's top finisher as the Tigers totaled 52 team points to defeat Samford (83 points).
