DALTON, Ga. - The No. 20 Auburn men's golf team is in 10th after the opening round of the Carpet Capital Collegiate, shooting a 6-over, 294 at The Farm Golf Club on Friday.

Senior Dan Stringfellow shot an even-par 72 and is tied for 18th. The Roselle, Ill., native collected birdies on the par-4 first and par-5 second, 12th and 15th holes as part of a four-birdie outing.

"I'm happy with the way the guys fought today, and we a lot of good golf ahead of us," head coach Nick Clinard said. "They hung in there today, but we just didn't have anybody go low. Both Dan and Matt had four birdies apiece so that is something to build on for tomorrow."

Sophomore Matt Gilchrest, from Southlake, Texas, had four birdies and shot a 73 and is tied for 24th. Jake Mondy, a junior from Blacksburg, Va., shot a 2-over 74 and is tied for 35th. Junior Michael Johnson from Birmingham is tied for 43rd with a 75 while sophomore Ryan Benton of Dothan is tied for 52nd at 76 with sophomore Will Long, who is playing as an individual.

The three-day, 54-hole tournament continues on Saturday and Sunday.
