AUBURN, Ala. -- Greg Stinger and Patrick Ebel have been named assistant coaches for the Auburn track and field program, head coach Ralph Spry announced Thursday. Stinger will work with the horizontal jumps, while Ebel will serve as throws coach.
"I am really excited to have Greg Stinger and Pat Ebel, join the Auburn family," Spry said. "Both have proven themselves at the Division I level, with Greg coming from the SEC and Pat coming from the Big Ten. I have had the opportunity to watch these guys in action and both are great people and great recruiters, which are things that will help them be successful at Auburn. I couldn't be happier to have these two coaches join our staff."
In a seven-year stint at Ole Miss from 2009-15, Stringer coached jump and multi-event athletes including nine SEC Champions and 16 All-America selections. Most notably, Ricky Robertson was a seven-time All-American, seven-time SEC Champion and two-time SEC Athlete of the Year under Stringer's tutelage.
With Stringer's direction, Robertson became the only athlete in SEC history to claim seven high jump titles.
"I am very thankful for the opportunity to be at Auburn," Stringer said. "Joining this team is special. I think this is a place where we can be successful and win championships. Auburn is a great place for me and my family."
Prior to his appointment at Mississippi, Stringer served 11 years at Southern Miss. During that time, he led five athletes to Conference USA titles. From 2003-04, Stinger guided high jumper Cedric Norman to back-to-back bronze medals at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Ebel comes to Auburn with 18 years of collegiate experience and most recently with Penn State from 2013-16. At Penn State, Ebel coached 18 All-America selections, including 2016 United States Olympian and 2015 Big Ten Outdoor Athlete of the Year Darrell Hill.
Prior to Penn State, Ebel spent 11 seasons as an assistant coach at the Wisconsin-Oshkosh. During his time at UW-Oshkosh, Ebel developed 53 All-America selections and guided athletes to 36 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference titles. In 2011, Ebel was named National Indoor Coach of the Year by the U.S. Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association.
"I am definitely excited to come here and work with the Auburn staff," Ebel said. "I am looking forward to building upon Auburn's great tradition of throwers. I am also looking forward to working with the current athletes and getting out there and recruiting across the United States and internationally to bring in great student-athletes that can fit both academically and athletically at Auburn."
