AUBURN, Ala. -- The No. 8 Auburn gymnastics team opened the 2017 season in Auburn Arena Friday night and fell to No. 13 Oregon State, 195.575-195.275.

"I'm not overly upset about tonight," head coach Jeff Graba said. "We had a lot of people in new positions going into tonight and we're trying some new stuff. At the same time, our Auburn philosophy is to start a little bit slow, we do it on purpose. I'm happy we're all walking away and we're gonna get better next week."

The Tigers opened the night with a 48.900 on vault and was led by freshman Gracie Day in the event. The San Antonio, Texas, product captured the first event title of her career after scoring a 9.850.

Senior MJ Rott followed with a 9.825, while sophomore Taylor Krippner finished with a 9.775. Sophomore Telah Black and freshman Katie Becker each chipped in a 9.725 for the Tigers in the opening rotation.

The second rotation sent Auburn to bars where the team also picked up a 48.900. The youthful squad was once again led by Day, finishing with a 9.825. A trio of Tigers in redshirt senior Kelsey Kopec, sophomore Emma Engler, and junior Abby Milliet tallied 9.775s. Krippner and classmate Samantha Cerio each had a 9.750 on the night.

Krippner tied a career-high on beam to guide Auburn in rotation three, finishing with a 9.825. MIlliet and Cerio had a 9.775, apiece, while senior Kullen Hlawek added a 9.725. Making her collegiate debut was redshirt freshman Emma Slappey and the Jacksonville, Fla., native finished the Tiger scoring with a 9.7.

Auburn capped the evening on floor and Rott picked up her first event title of the season, winning with a 9.825. Cerio followed at 9.8 and Day finished with a score of 9.775. Senior Lucia Scaglione was in the third slot in the Tiger lineup and scored a 9.725, while Milliet closed out Auburn scoring at 9.550.

MIlliet competed in the all-around for the Tigers and finished at 38.700.

Auburn remains at home next week, hosting No. 9 Georgia in a big SEC meet. The Tigers and the Bulldogs square off at 6 p.m. CT in Auburn Arena and the meet will be televised on SEC Network.
