AUBURN, Ala. ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃƒÆ'¢'¬" No. 8 Auburn women's tennis swept Tulane, 4-0 in the first round of the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic in Montgomery, Ala. on Friday. The Tigers took the doubles point from Denver in a second round match that will be completed tomorrow.

"I am very pleased with our play today in both matches," Auburn head coach Lauren Spencer said. "We knew going into our match that Tulane would be a dangerous team after beating LSU. They came to play and we set the tone from the very beginning. I am very pleased with our execution and energy."

Auburn was dominant early in the first match, taking the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. No. 15 duo Alizee Michaud and Taylor Russo improved to 15-4 on the season with a 6-1 victory on court one.

Roos van der Zwaan and Georgie Axon teamed up for the second time this season to clinch the doubles point for the Tigers, winning 6-2 on court three.

Van der Zwaan was first off the court in singles with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 victory on court six. The junior is now 9-3 on the season.

Russo improved to 13-5 on the season and clinched the match with a 7-6, 7-6 victory on court three. The freshman is second on the team with 35 combined victories in singles and doubles.

In the second match, Andie Dikosavljevic and Alannah Griffin were first off the court with a 6-1 victory on court two and then Axon and van der Zwaan clinched the point, winning 7-5 on court three.

"I am happy we got the doubles point against Denver, but tomorrow is going to be a long day and we need to get ready for a war in singles tomorrow morning," Spencer said.

Auburn will face Denver in singles tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. to decide the match. The match will be played at Lagoon Park in Montgomery, Ala.
