AUBURN, Ala. - One year removed from the best season in Auburn soccer history, Casie Ramsier returned to her alma mater during Homecoming to receive the Leah Rawls Atkins Award.
"I miss it, and it hasn't even been that long," said Ramsier, who earned her master's in accounting in August, completing a remarkable four-year journey filled with athletic and academic achievements.
In her first three years, Ramsier earned Auburn University Honors Scholar degrees in accounting and finance, with a 3.92 GPA
As a senior in 2017, she helped Auburn reach the NCAA quarterfinals for the first time, setting a program record with 17 wins.
"Everything that you give her, she's going to excel at," soccer coach Karen Hoppa said. "She's very driven, very focused. She's made the most of her academic talents, just like she's made the most of her athletic talents. Casie had a tremendous career on and off the field, and is a great representative of Auburn University."
Auburn annually presents the Leah Rawls Atkins Award for excellence in academics and athletics to a student-athlete who models leadership, integrity and courage.
"It's a testament to the people I've been around, my coaches, my teammates, my professors, my advisers, everyone who was able to provide me opportunities to succeed and held me accountable throughout my four years there," said Ramsier, a two-time All-American. "I'm accepting it on behalf of them because I wouldn't be even close to where I am without them."
Accounting professor Dr. Tina Loraas, Ramsier's instructor for undergraduate and graduate classes, is one of the members of Team Casie.
"Casie is the personification of the Auburn Creed and I am so proud that I got to be part of her Auburn experience," Loraas said. "She approached everything with hard work and a great attitude. One thing that I thought was amazing was her ability to manage her time.
"When Casie was in my classroom you wouldn't know she was a soccer phenom, and when you watched No. 24 play soccer, you wouldn't know she was an accounting star! Casie really is the perfect example of a student-athlete. She put her heart and soul into both."
Before her senior season, Ramsier had already landed a job offer after interning at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Dallas. She's two weeks into her career working with PwC's risk assurance department.
"It's definitely lot more of a team atmosphere than people would think accounting is," she said.
After competing since childhood, Ramsier remains active, along with her lifelong training partner, twin sister and former Auburn soccer teammate Brooke, a medical assistant at an orthopedic clinic and aspiring physician assistant.
"Brooke and I signed up for a gym together," Casie says. "She's my workout buddy here so we still find a way to lift weights. We get our cardio in, not as many sprints as we used to do. [Assistant strength and conditioning coach] Megan [Young] would be proud."
