AUBURN, Ala. ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃƒÆ'¢'¬" On Thursday, Auburn kicker Daniel Carlson was selected as a candidate for the 2017 Senior CLASS Award in college football. The award recognizes notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
On the field, Carlson was a Lou Groza Award finalist in both 2015 and 2016. He was also named the SEC Special Teams Player of the Year in 2016. This season, he's 8 of 12 on his field-goal attempts and he recently went 3 of 3 at Missouri, including two field goals from more than 50 yards. For his career, he's 12 of 16 on field goals of 50 yards or more.
In the classroom, Carlson has been named to the SEC Honor Roll every year he's been at Auburn. He graduated in three-and-a-half years with a 3.66 GPA in finance and is scheduled to receive his MBA in May.
Carlson, who was recently named to the AFCA Good Works Team, also went on mission trips to Guatemala and the Dominican Republic this past offseason.
The senior kicker is one of 30 candidates for the Senior CLASS Award, but the list will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the season. The winner will be announced during the bowl season in early January.
