AUBURN, Ala. - Auburn soccer junior defender Taylor Troutman has been named to the 2017 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District Team, the organization announced Thursday.
The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
First-Team Academic All-District recipients advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be announced in December.
"For Taylor to be named Academic All-District is a credit to her abilities both on the soccer field and in the classroom," head coach Karen Hoppa said. "Within our team, she's our academic captain, and we're very proud to see her leading the way in that regard. The fact that she will be on the Academic All-American ballot is something she's very worthy of."
A native of Toms River, N.J., Troutman holds a 3.83 cumulative GPA as a Mechanical Engineering major and serves as the Tigers' academic team captain -- helping the younger players adjust to balancing both academics and athletics.
On the pitch, Troutman has played and started in all 18 Auburn matches this season and played a key role on the Tigers' defensive unit that turned in five shutouts during SEC play -- matching a program record. Troutman also registered six points on one goal and four assists, which rank tied for third on the team. She is the lone Auburn defender to score a goal this season, which proved to be the game-winner in the Tigers' season-opening win against South Alabama.
Troutman has played in all 65 matches during her three seasons on The Plains and is nearing 4,500 minutes of action in her Auburn career.
Troutman and the Tigers open the NCAA Tournament with a first-round match against Hofstra (15-3-2) Friday evening. Kickoff at the Auburn Soccer Complex is scheduled for 5 p.m. CT.
