AUBURN, Ala. - Preseason accolades continue to pile up for Auburn baseball's Casey Mize as the junior right hander was named a Preseason First Team All-American by Baseball America Monday morning.

The Preseason First Team All-American honors are the third for Mize after he already earned the recognition from Perfect Game/Rawlings and D1 Baseball earlier this month. He was also named a Preseason Second Team All-American by Collegiate Baseball in December.

Mize is coming off a season in which he led Auburn with an 8-2 record, 2.04 ERA and 109 strikeouts despite missing three starts with an injury. His ERA registered third in the Southeastern Conference and 25th in the NCAA, while his strikeout total was the highest by an Auburn pitcher since 1999. Additionally, Mize led the NCAA with a 12.11 strikeout-to-walk ratio and ranked 15th in the country by striking out 11.73 batters per nine innings.

Eight of Mize's 12 starts were quality outings, including a pair of complete-game efforts against conference foe South Carolina and NCAA Tournament opponent Tennessee Tech. Mize registered double-digit strikeouts on five occasions and didn't allow an earned run in half of his starts.

Following his sophomore campaign, the Springville, Ala., native became Auburn's 25th All-American in program history as he earned second-team honors from the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and third-team recognition from Baseball America and Perfect Game/Rawlings.

Mize also went on to become the eighth Auburn player to compete for the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team during the summer and didn't allow a run while striking out eight in 7.0 innings pitched.

Mize and the Tigers begin the 2018 season as Longwood comes to town for a three-game series beginning Friday, Feb. 16 at Plainsman Park. Season tickets, which are $185 per seat, cover the Tigers' 35-game home schedule and include 15 SEC contests. Single-game and specialty-pack tickets are also available.
