SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Brandon Mancheno and Jovan Rebula each earned top-10 placings to guide the No. 6 Auburn men's golf team to a fifth-place finish following the final round of the Maui Jim Intercollegiate Sunday afternoon.
The duo carded 13 birdies and tied for sixth individually after the third circuit of the par-70 Mirabel Golf Club.
Mancheno turned in a final round score of 3-under to end the tournament at 8-under (67-68-67--202). Meanwhile, Rebula matched a career-best with a 5-under 65 to cap his first action of the season at 8-under (68-69-65--202).
"The golf course was a different look and test for the guys this week," head coach Nick Clinard said. "I'm really proud of Jovan and Brandon for the great play, and we showed signs of improving over the last event. We still need more production from the bottom of our lineup, but it will come. The guys are playing some outstanding golf back home as a group, so big things are ahead for this team."
Jacob Solomon tied for 27th overall following a 2-over 72 in his third tour of the course. The senior ended the weekend at 2-under (70-66-72--208).
Graysen Huff, who was competing as an individual, turned in his lowest round of the season with a 2-under 68. The junior tied for 35th after three rounds at 2-under (70-72-68--210).
Rounding out the Auburn contingent were Wells Padgett and Ryan Knop. Padgett tied for 48th at 3-over (70-73-70--213), while Knop tied for 56th at 5-over (72-69-74--215).
As a team, the Tigers finished fifth after turning in a 6-under 274 to cap the tournament at 19-under (821).
Georgia Tech won the event at 28-under (812), followed by Arizona State (814), LSU (817) and NC State (819).
After Auburn came Clemson (823), Oregon (829), Kent State (831), Oregon State (833), Augusta (833), Houston (836), Minnesota (843), Georgia State (852) and Kansas State (855).
The Tigers return to the links Oct. 8-9 at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate at Old Overton in Vestavia Hills, Ala.
