Louisville, Ky.—Running in her first race of the 2018 season, sophomore Joyce Kimeli led the Auburn women at the Louisville Classic with a 16th-place finish as the team took 10th in a strong 22 team field. Kimeli, who was 35th a year ago at the same meet, crossed the 6k finish line at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park in 17:13.5.
Sophomore Mercey Kiprop was Auburn's second finisher, crossing in 18:24.7 for 70th place. Freshman Hannah Tarwater ran a strong race finishing 77th in 18:27.5, while junior Presley Weems and freshman Gigi Maddox rounded out the Tigers' scoring. Weems was 90th in 18:35.8 and Maddox was 105th in 18:52.4.
On the men's side, freshman Silas Kipngetich led the way for the Tigers for the second consecutive meet. Kipngetich crossed the 8k finish line in 24:50.8, 25 seconds ahead of sophomore Tommy McDonough who was 69th in 25:15.8.
Sophomore Jack Rogers was Auburn's third scorer finishing in 25:43.5 (121st), while Ryan Lee (26:23.5, 188th) and junior Erik Armes (26:25.6, 193th) also scored.
Auburn will be back in action in two weeks at the Pre-National Meet in Madison, Wisc., on Saturday, Oct. 13.
