AUBURN, Ala. – Seniors Caitlin Boyle and Ashton Alexander of the No. 1 Auburn equestrian team were named September SEC Riders of the Month, the league office announced Thursday.
Boyle was awarded the monthly honor for her performances in Equitation Over Fences. The Hampshire, Ill., product opened the 2018-19 season with a pair of victories in the event for the top-ranked Tigers.
She kicked the year off with an 86-84 victory in the event at then-No. 10 UT Martin, Sept. 20, securing Most Outstanding Performer honors for her win. That total led all student-athletes in the event that day.
Boyle followed with 90 points in her win vs. then-No. 9 South Carolina. That point total tied a career high for the senior.
With her help, the Tigers finished 8-2 overall in the event over two meets.
Alexander earned the honor in Equitation on the Flat and also secured the NCEA Rider of the Month award in the event for September.
The Ocala, Fla., native kicked off her final campaign on the Plains with an 86-75 win in the event vs. the Skyhawks. Her score led all student-athletes on the day, earning her MOP honors.
Alexander followed with a 76-73 win in Auburn's huge 18-2 victory over South Carolina at home (Sept. 28). With her assistance, the Tigers swept the Gamecocks in Flat.
Alexander stands at 2-0 overall in the event with a 4-0 mark in the Hunter Seat discipline.
After a week off, the No. 1 Tigers will host Ole Miss in an exhibition meet at the Auburn University Equestrian Center. Auburn and Ole Miss will go head-to-head at 3 p.m. CT on Oct. 12.
