AUBURN, Ala. – Gathered around the Auburn Athletics complex staff room table watching live streams, Auburn's coaches celebrated as each signee announced his intention to become a Tiger.
Auburn added five signees Wednesday to the 16 who signed in December, giving the Tigers a 21-member 2019 recruiting class, nine of whom have already enrolled.
"Very excited about this group," Auburn coach Gus Malzahn said. "There are some great players in this group who will be great players for us here at Auburn.
"You combine that with the eight juniors who thought about going out early to the NFL who chose to come back, I think there's a lot of excitement, a lot of reasons to be excited."
Auburn signed three players from Mississippi in the 2019 class, including defensive lineman Charles Moore, the latest member of an elite D-line group.
"This could be the best defensive line that we've had, at least since I've been at Auburn," Malzahn said. "I think it will have a chance to rival the rest around the country."
Auburn is holding a few scholarships available for possible transfers, said Malzahn, mentioning graduate transfer Jack Driscoll last season.
"If you can better your team," he said. "A guy who can better your team, impact player. This day and time in college football, I think it's really wise to hold on to a couple. You'll see us continue to do that."
Here's what Malzahn said about Auburn's Wednesday signees:
Kamaar Bell (OL, 6-4, 325; Colquitt County HS, Moultrie, Georgia)
"He was a priority. We only signed two linemen the first signing period, and this is a guy that can play center, he can play guard. We think this guy can come in and have a chance to help right off the way from Moultrie, Georgia.
Octavius "O.C." Brothers (LB, 6-2, 230; Rockledge HS; Titusville, Florida)
"What really stood out to our staff is his versatility. He played some wide receiver. He plays linebacker. He plays corner. He can do a lot of different things. I got a chance to watch him play basketball. I know Coach T-Will is extremely excited about this guy. He plays with an edge. He's a very physical guy that can really run."
Kameron Brown (LB, 6-0, 230; Lanier HS; Sugar Hill, Georgia)
"We're very excited. That's Derrick Brown's brother. He had 187 tackles. I believe he either led the state of Georgia or was second in the state of Georgia in tackles. It really reminds me of a lot of the Deshaun Davis story. A guy that wasn't highly recruited, but he has all the physicality, the want to, all the intangibles."
Charles Moore (DL, 6-4, 275; Louisville, HS; Louisville, Mississippi)
"He was a guy that was a priority for our staff. Our guys did a super job recruiting him. He was wanted by a whole lot of people. Very athletic. Very strong. I really think this guy has a chance to be an impact player."
Mark-Antony Richards (RB, 6-1, 200; Wellington HS; Wellington, Florida)
"He's a guy that we recruited for three years. His brother, Ahmmon, was a guy that we recruited very hard that ended up going to Miami, had a great career. We kept in touch. Mark-Antony, I really believe, was the most versatile running back in the country. He can do a lot of different things. He's a great running back, but he catches the ball out of the backfield. I know a lot of people were recruiting him to play defensive back and all that. He really reminds me of Kerryon Johnson. He can do a lot of different things. This guy is a real special player."
