NORMAN, Okla. – Auburn head coach Nick Clinard has been chosen to coach the United States boys team at the 2019 Toyota Junior Golf World Cup. The event will be held June 18-21 on Chukyo Golf Club's Ishino Course outside Nagoya, Japan.
"I'm excited for the opportunity to coach Team USA in Japan at the Junior Golf World Cup," Clinard said. "It's an honor and a privilege to be chosen by the Golf Coaches Association of America. I'm looking forward to getting to Japan, getting to learn my guys, represent the United States and compete for a title."
The international competition with pit 24 teams of four representing their respective countries in a 72-hole event. The United States has won three of the last four competitions after not capturing the top prize since 2004.
Auburn is no stranger to the prestigious annual event as it has had three players participate. Current Tigers Brandon Mancheno and Jovan Rebula took part in the Junior Golf World Cup prior to their arrival on The Plains. Patton Kizzire also represented the United States in the 2004 edition of the competition.
In his career, Clinard has 42 tournament victories including three conference championships, coached 12 All-Americans, 17 Academic All-Americans, two conference players of the year, three individual conference champions and 32 all-conference selections.
The Toyota Junior Golf World Cup is the world's only junior golf championship in which 24 international teams qualified to participate. Over 70 different national teams competed in 6 different continents in order to compete for the honor as world champion.
