AUBURN, Ala. – Derrian Gobourne earned All-SEC honors and was named to the All-Freshman Team on Thursday after leading the No. 13 Auburn gymnastics team to a sixth-place finish at the SEC championship in New Orleans over the weekend.
"I'm very happy that Derrian was able to shine at the SEC championship and that she is being recognized for being one of the very best gymnasts the best conference in the country," Auburn head coach Jeff Graba said. "She is extremely deserving of this award, and we are extremely proud of her."
To earn All-SEC recognition, gymnasts must finish in the top two spots (including ties) per event in each SEC championship session. The All-Freshman Team is made up of the freshmen student-athlete with the top score (including ties) on each event in both sessions and the top two all-around scores by a freshman in each session.
Gobourne took home All-SEC honors and was named to the All-Freshman Team on both vault and floor as she posted a 9.900 on each in Saturday's afternoon session. The 9.900 on vault matched a career high for Gobourne and also placed her in a tied for third overall. On floor, it was the fourth time she's scored a 9.900 or higher on the event this season, including a pair of 9.950s against LSU and Georgia.
Gobourne, the two-time SEC Freshman of the Week, also made the All-Freshman Team in the all-around competition with a 39.250 to finish second among freshmen in the afternoon session. Coming into the meet, she had won or shared the all-around title in five of Auburn's 11 meets this season.
Last year, the Tigers had three gymnasts earn All-SEC with Drew Watson, Gracie Day and Samantha Cerio. Like Gobourne, Watson was also named to the All-Freshman Team.
Auburn returns to action next week when the team travels to LSU for the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional, April 4-6. The Tigers will compete Friday, April 5 in the Second Round and if they place top two, they will move on and compete in the Regional Final on Saturday, April 6.
