BATON ROUGE, La. – A hard-fought match came down to third sets on three courts, but the 34th-ranked Auburn women's tennis team came up just short to No. 12 LSU 4-1 on Sunday afternoon.

Auburn (13-4, 0-2 SEC) got a win from freshman Sophia Graver at the No. 3 singles spot and were in position to win two other matches still in progress when LSU secured the clinching point.

LSU took the doubles point with wins on courts one and three to take a 1-0 lead. Graver got Auburn on the board with a quick 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles, and the Tigers took the first set on four other courts. But LSU fought back to force third sets in two matches and clinched the win on court one. Taylor Russo was in a third-set tiebreaker at the No. 4 spot and Alannah Griffin led 5-4 in the third when play was halted.

Auburn opens the home conference season next week when they host Vanderbilt at 2 p.m. Friday and Kentucky at 11 a.m. Sunday at the Yarbrough Tennis Center.
