AUBURN, Ala. – The postseason field is set. As one of four regional hosts, the No. 13 Auburn women's golf team already knew it was in and where it was headed. But that doesn't mean the Tigers aren't still excited about the opportunity to host the NCAA Auburn Regional at Saugahatchee Country Club, May 6-8.
"After playing a very busy March and April schedule all on the road, it is such a great thing to host the Auburn Regional," fourth-year head coach Melissa Luellen said. "I want to thank the Auburn Athletics staff for all the work in the past year that they have done in preparation. Our team is looking forward to completing final exams and to advancing to the NCAA Championship."
"I also want to thank Saugahatchee Country Club for hosting the event. The course will separate the field so the worthy teams advance."
Auburn will be the No. 4 seed in its regional and was one of 72 teams selected into the NCAA field, with 18 teams competing at each of the four sites. The top six teams and three individuals from each regional will advance to the 2018 NCAA Championship, set for May 17-22 in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
There will be plenty of competition for those six spots in the Auburn Regional, though, with a field that consists of six teams in the top 30 and 11 teams in the top 50.
The Tigers, who moved up a spot to No. 13 in this week's Golfstat rankings, will be joined by No. 3 Duke, No. 6 Vanderbilt, No. 11 Florida State, No. 17 Virginia, No. 22 Furman, No. 27 Clemson, No. 31 Houston, No. 35 Kennesaw State, No. 38 Alabama, No. 42 Tennessee, No. 46 Cal, Maryland, East Carolina, Denver, South Alabama, Albany and Murray State.
This will be Auburn's 25th overall appearance in an NCAA Regional and the first time it has hosted one since 2013. The Tigers have advanced to the NCAA Championship 15 times, including last year following a third place finish at the NCAA Austin Regional.
