ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. - The top-seeded Auburn men's golf team defeated eighth-seeded South Carolina, 4-1, in the quarterfinals of match play at the 2019 South Conference Championship Saturday morning.
The Tigers move on to the semifinals where No. 4 seed Kentucky awaits. Matches are set to begin at 12:30 p.m. CT.
Auburn won in convincing fashion behind victories from Graysen Huff, Brandon Mancheno, Jovan Rebula and Jacob Solomon. Trace Crowe was the only Tiger to suffer defeat.
Solomon earned the first point of the match when he took down South Carolina's Ryan Stachler, 2&1. The Auburn senior took the opening hole and never looked back as he didn't allow his opponent to draw level at any point during the match.
Rebula, who trailed by two after 13 holes, caught fire as he carded a birdie on the final five holes to take over the lead and finish it off on the 18th hole.
Holding a 5-hole lead, Mancheno secured his match by earning a par on the 14th hole to secure the point.
Huff tapped in a par on the 15th to maintain a 2-up advantage, and that was all that was needed as the junior's match, as well as Crowe's match were stopped with the result in hand.
Auburn is set to face Kentucky, who defeated Tennessee in the quarterfinals, at 12:30 p.m. CT. Live coverage can be found on SEC Network+, beginning at 3:30 p.m. CT. The victor will face the winner of the Arkansas-Texas A&M semifinal on Sunday.
