AUBURN, Ala. – Tad Maclean defeated a ranked opponent in singles, but No. 2 Florida clinched a share of the SEC men's tennis regular season title with a 6-1 victory over Auburn Sunday afternoon at the Yarbrough Tennis Center.
"We have to be willing to go outside our comfort zone individually to get the results we want," Auburn coach Bobby Reynolds said. "When we are willing to do that, we have a chance to turn it around."
Maclean, playing No. 2 singles, defeated No. 89 Johannes Ingildsen of Florida in straight sets by a 6-4, 6-0 score on court two. It was Maclean's second defeat of a ranked opponent this season.
Senior Brandon Laubser closed out his home career at Auburn taking No. 109 Duarte Vale to a third set tiebreaker on court five. Laubser closed the second set winning a tiebreaker 8-6, before Vale prevailed in the third set by a 10-5 score.
Auburn is now 12-17 for the spring season; Florida is 19-2 overall and 11-0 in SEC action. Auburn finishes the regular season next Saturday at No. 44 Arkansas.
