The Evian Championship tees off Thursday in France, and this year's field includes two Auburn Tigers – current student-athlete Julie McCarthy and former alum Cydney Clanton.
McCarthy is one of five amateurs playing in the LPGA major event after earning an exemption during last month's Arnold Palmer Cup. The rising junior is coming off a season at Auburn in which she won her first collegiate tournament, achieved six top-five finishes and finished with the sixth-lowest stroke average per round (72.90) in single-season history.
This will be the first LPGA event for McCarthy, who also played in the Vagliano Trophy earlier this summer along with the Arnold Palmer Cup.
Clanton earned her spot in the Evian field after winning the inaugural Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational this past weekend. She became the first Auburn alum to win an LPGA event.
"What a great thing for Auburn golf to have two Auburn Tigers competing in the Evian Championship this week, an LPGA major," Auburn head coach Melissa Luellen said.
"Julie McCarthy earned her right to play after being selected by her fellow Arnold Palmer Cup participants to represent the international side of the Arnold Palmer Cup field. A true honor to be selected by your peers. The second Auburn Tiger is Cydney Clanton after securing her exemption by winning last week on the LPGA Tour.
"This is a significant accomplishment for the Auburn Tigers golf program, having young ladies represent Auburn at the highest level in our sport."
The Evian Championship will run from Thursday to Sunday at the Evian Resort Golf Club in Evian-les-Bains, France. It features a field of 119 of the best golfers from across the country and will be shown live on Golf Channel and CNBC all weekend.
