AUBURN, Ala. – The Auburn women's golf team will have three players in the field at this week's U.S. Women's Amateur, which begins Monday with the first round of stroke play from Old Waverly Golf Club (Par 72, 6,509 yards) in West Point, Mississippi.
Rising sophomores Brooke Sansom and Chandler Rosholt both qualified for the event at the beginning of July, and they will be joined by incoming freshman Megan Schofill, who finished second at a qualifier event in Florida on July 17.
"The U.S. Amateur Championship is the premier top event for female amateur golfers," Auburn head coach Melissa Luellen said. "It's like the U.S. Open for amateurs. It is awesome that we have three players playing in the field. Two sophomores and an incoming freshman, so that means that the future is bright for Auburn golf."
Sansom, who made the All-SEC Freshman Team this past year, won her qualifier in Roswell, Georgia, with a round of 66 (-6) that included six birdies and no bogies.
Rosholt qualified on the same day after shooting a 72 (E) to place fourth in her event. The rising sophomore also played well in the Texas Women's Stroke Play Championship earlier this summer when she finished tied for 8th in the field of 65 competitors.
Schofill, who won't arrive at Auburn until later this month, has had a solid summer of her own. The Florida native reached the semifinals of the Women's Southern Amateur in June, and then two weeks later, she won the stroke play portion of the Florida Women's Amateur before bowing out in the Round of 16 in match play.
Here's a look at when all three Auburn players will tee off Monday.
Sansom, 8:15 a.m. CT
Rosholt, 12:45 p.m. CT
Schofill, 1:45 p.m. CT
After two rounds of stroke play Monday and Tuesday, the top 64 golfers will move on to match play, beginning Wednesday. Match play will continue through Sunday when the top two will play 36 holes in the championship match.
Live scoring will be available on USGA.org.
