AUBURN, Ala. – The Auburn women's tennis team will have players headed to two tournaments this weekend as student-athletes will compete in the H-E-B Invitational and the ITA All-American Championships.
The H-E-B Invitational, hosted by Baylor, runs Friday-Sunday at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco, Texas, with four Auburn players competing. Two Tigers will travel to Tulsa, Okla., for the ITA All-American Championships, which begin Saturday with competition running through next week.
H-E-B Invitational
Four Tigers will head to Waco for the weekend event. Senior Georgie Axon, junior Lindsay Song, sophomore Yu Chen and freshman Carolyn Ansari will compete for Auburn.
Play begins at 9 a.m. Friday and Saturday with start time to be determined Sunday. Student-athletes from Auburn, Baylor, Mississippi State, Kentucky, LSU, Arkansas, Texas A&M, Illinois, Texas, Iowa State, TCU, UTSA and Houston will compete in singles and doubles.
Axon and Chen enter the weekend with unbeaten records in singles play. Axon went 4-0 and captured the Orange flight title at the Marliss Gruver Fall Invitational, and Chen was the flight 2 winner at last week's Rice Invitaitonal, going 3-0 on the weekend.
ITA All-American Championships
Junior Madeline Meredith and freshman Selin Ovunc earned invitations to the ITA All-American Championships in singles and will compete in the pre-qualifying round that begins Saturday.
The full tournament runs Oct. 5-13 at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center and the Case Tennis Center at LaFortune Park, hosted by the University of Tulsa.
Ovunc went 3-1 at the Marliss Gruver Invite, advancing to the Blue flight final. Meredith enters the weekend at 2-2 for the fall season.
