Auburn in the NFL: Week 5 rundown

Auburn in the NFL: Week 5 rundownAuburn in the NFL: Week 5 rundown

Carlton Davis pulled down his second interception in as many weeks. Cody Parkey stayed perfect on the season, making a clutch kick late. But the star of Week 5 was wide receiver Darius Slayton who continues to shine in just his second year in the NFL. That and more in this week's Auburn in the NFL rundown.

BEST OF WEEK 5

Carlton Davis, CB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Make it two straight weeks with an interception for Davis. The third-year player picked off Chicago quarterback Nick Foles in the first quarter Thursday night and returned it 34 yards the other way. Davis now has three interceptions on the season, which is tied for the NFL lead, and he's the first Buccaneer in a decade to have three interceptions in the first five games. He also had seven tackles and two passes defended against the Bears. He's the only player in the league with at least six passes defended at least three tackles for loss.

Jamel Dean, CB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Chicago Bears tried to go after Dean in the second half, but Dean wasn't having it. The second-year cornerback saw five targets after halftime and allowed just one catch. He finished with four passes defended, which marks the fourth time in the last 14 games that Dean has recorded four or more passes defended in a single game. No player has had more games with four or more in his first two NFL seasons than Dean who is currently ranked No. 3 among all NFL cornerbacks with an overall PFF grade of 82.4.

Jack Driscoll, OT, Philadelphia Eagles
Driscoll, who made his first NFL start earlier this season, was thrust into the lineup Sunday after teammates Lane Johnson suffered an ankle injury in the third quarter. The rookie offensive tackle played 27 snaps and looked impressive in his limited action, allowing zero quarterback pressures on 17 pass-blocking snaps in a 38-29 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Cody Parkey, K, Cleveland Browns
Parkey, now in his seventh season in the NFL, had another perfect day Sunday. The Browns' kicker made all three of his field-goal attempts and was 3 of 3 on extra points. The biggest kick of the day, though, came late in the fourth quarter when Parkey drilled a 46-yard field goal to extend the lead to 32-23 and seal a victory over the Indianapolis Colts. He's yet to miss a kick this season, going 7 of 7 on field goals and 17 of 17 on PATs.

Darius Slayton, WR, New York Giants
There was the toe-tap along the sideline. There was the one-handed grab with a defender hanging on him. Slayton caught just about everything thrown his way Sunday and finished with eight catches for 129 yards, both season highs, in a loss to the Dallas Cowboys. It was the second 100-yard receiving game of the season for Slayton, who was named to the PFF Team of the Week for this week's performance.

Daniel Thomas, DB, Jacksonville Jaguars
Thomas was given an opportunity Sunday when two safeties left the game for Jacksonville, and the rookie took full advantage. After only playing one defensive snap in the team's first four games, Thomas played 28 snaps against the Houston Texans and finished tied for the team lead with seven tackles, all solo.
