AUBURN, Ala. – For the Auburn women's golf team, it doesn't matter who is in the lineup from tournament to tournament. The goal remains the same.
"Be in a position the last day to have an opportunity to win," Auburn head coach Melissa Luellen said. "I know how competitive our team is. No matter who we put in there, we're going to be fighting and scrapping. And I think throughout the year we'll have a lot of opportunities to win."
It's no different this week when Auburn tees off at The Ally at Old Waverly, its second tournament of the 2020-21 season. The Tigers will feature a new lineup in the three-day event, which features all 14 SEC teams along with Southern Miss.
Juniors Kaleigh Telfer and Mychael O'Berry will once again occupy the top two spots following strong performances at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational earlier this month. They will be followed this week by returning freshman Megan Schofill, a First Team All-SEC selection from last year who will be making her season debut for Auburn.
Schofill played well at Old Waverly Golf Course last year, shooting three straight rounds under par to finish second overall at the Magnolia Invitational. She also finished second in stroke play and made the Round of 16 in the 2019 U.S. Women's Amateur played at Old Waverly.
"I have always liked that course," Schofill said. "I just love the atmosphere out there. Mississippi State does a great job running that tournament. I don't know. It just sets up good to my eye. Once you play a course well a few times, you just start to see how everything is supposed to lay out. It's going to be a good field this year, too."
Rounding out Auburn's lineup will be Elina Sinz and Anna Foster, two true freshmen who will be making their collegiate debuts at Old Waverly.
It's a course (Par 72, 6,377 yards) that has fared well for Auburn freshmen the last two years. Schofill placed second last year shooting 8-under par, and Anika Bolcíková won the Magnolia Invitational two years ago as a freshman in what was her first event.
The Tigers, who will all play in the same group, are scheduled to tee off Monday at 10:30 a.m. CT from the first hole. Live scoring can be found on Golfstat.com.
