AUBURN, Ala. – Senior midfielder Alyssa Malonson has been named to the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week following her performance against Georgia in the second round of the SEC Tournament.
It marks the second straight week Malonson has been recognized by Top Drawer Soccer after she earned honorable mention Team of the Week honors a week ago. It also marks the fifth time an Auburn player has been recognized this season.
Malonson continued to play a big attacking role for the Tigers are she assisted on both goals in a 2-1 double overtime win against Georgia Sunday. She matched the Auburn SEC Tournament record with the pair of assists and became the first Tiger to record two assists in a tournament game since 2015.
The Spring, Texas, got the Auburn offense started as she beat the goalkeeper to a back pass and played a cross to Sydney Richards, who finished the near-post run to give the Tigers the lead in the ninth minute.
More than 90 minutes later but just seconds into the double overtime period, Malonson received a pass from Hailey Whitaker at the top of the 18-yard box and beat her defender around the left edge before crossing to Mallory Mooney, who made a far-post run and put the golden goal into the back of the net.
Malonson earned all-conference honors for the third time in her career last week as she was named a Second Team All-SEC midfielder. She ranks second on the team with five points on one goal and two assists, all of which have come in the last five contests.
Malonson and the Tigers take on top-seeded Arkansas (7-1-0) in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals at 5 p.m. CT on SEC Network.
