MELBOURNE, Fla. – Freshmen Elina Sinz and Anna Foster paced the Auburn women's golf team in the second round of the Moon Golf Invitational on Monday.
Sinz fired a 2-under 70 with three birdies on the day while Foster went bogey free for the round and finished with a 71 (-1). For Foster, it was her first round under par at Auburn. She's currently tied for 30th on the player leaderboard. Sinz, who started her career with back-to-back rounds in the red, is in a tie for 12th overall.
As a team, Auburn is in eighth through the first two rounds. The Tigers were 2-under Monday with nine combined birdies but could've gone lower had some more putts dropped.
"I think they put lids over the hole," Auburn head coach Melissa Luellen said. "Beautiful ball striking by the entire crew. We don't play in Florida, and we are having a teachable moment about grainy greens. We need to stay patient and get a few to fall early tomorrow."
It was another solid round for Mychael O'Berry who followed her 1-under 71 from the first round with a 72 (E) on Monday. At 1-under for the tournament, O'Berry is tied for 20th.
Like Foster, Kaleigh Telfer is in a tie for 30th overall at 1-over par. Telfer shot a 73 (+1) in Monday's second round. Megan Schofill also carded a 73 (+1) in the second round, improving on her score from Sunday. She's tied for 65th individually.
South Carolina opened its lead to 10 strokes on the rest of the field at 21-under par (555). The Gamecocks are followed by LSU (565), Virginia (567), UCF (571), Florida State (572), Arkansas (574), Florida (574), Auburn (575), Miami (577), Louisville (578), Illinois (580), Alabama (580), North Carolina (588), Oklahoma (591), Coastal Carolina (593), Augusta (602), Florida Gulf Coast (607) and Florida Atlantic (615).
There will be another shotgun start Tuesday with all 18 teams teeing off at 7:45 a.m. CT from the Duran Golf Club. Auburn will be paired with Florida State, Arkansas and Florida for the third and final round. Live scoring can be found on Golfstat.com.
