AUBURN, Ala.—Auburn began the 2020 outdoor track and field season with a successful start with a pair of wins and numerous personal bests at the Hutsell-Rosen Track Friday. Senior Tommy McDonough claimed the men's 5000m, crossing in 14:27.72, while fellow senior Kylee Carter won the women's javelin throw with a toss of 54.76m/179-8.
 
McDonough led a 1-2-3 sweep in the 5000m as freshmen teammates Dustyn Lewis and Carson took silver and bronze, respectively. Lewis finished in 14:39.26, just outcrossing Bedics, who clocked a 14:39.90.
 
Carter claimed her 16th collegiate victory as an Auburn Tiger and similar to the men's 5k, led a sweep on the medals stand as Auburn represented seven of the top nine finishers. Senior Ashley Carter was second with a PR throw of 48.46m/159-0, while Keira McCarrell (48.20m/158-2) claimed third.
 
In the men's javelin throw, Joshua Wallace was second and Erik Ebel third as both posted personal bests. Wallace posted a best mark of 62.32m/204-5 for silver, while Ebel notched a mark of 62.01m/203-5.
 
Senior Imani Jones had a solid effort in the women's long jump, taking third place with a PB of 5.93m/19-5.5.
 
Other medalist performances included bronze from Madi Malone (62.14m/203-10) in the women's hammer throw and Kyle Brown (65.13m/213-8) in the men's hammer.
 
Saturday's Day 2 will include a full slate with field events starting at 11:30 a.m. CT and running events beginning at noon. The day will conclude at 3:35 p.m. with the men's 4x400m relay.
