TALLAHASSEE, Fla.—Senior Nils Fischer, making his Auburn debut, broke the Auburn school record in the men's javelin throw at the FSU Relays in Tallahassee, Fla., to highlight the Tigers' efforts during the two-day meet.
Fischer, who transferred to Auburn from Angelo State prior to the 2020 season, recorded his school breaking mark of 73.69m/241-9 on his fourth of six throws to win the event over teammate Cade Antonucci. The Dusseldorf, Germany, native's mark was good for fourth nationally and broke the previous school best of 239-7 set by Justin Carter at the 2014 SEC Outdoor Championships.
The Tigers swept the medal stand in the men's javelin as sophomore Erik Ebel (62.13m/203-10) was third behind Fischer and Antonucci (70.97m/232-10), with a personal-best toss.
Sprinter Dante Brown continued his impressive efforts, finishing second in the men's 100m dash in a wind-aided time of 10.11 and was edged out by Florida's Joseph Fahnbulleh, who crossed in 10.08, the nation's top time in the event.
Junior Caroline Lawrence won her first collegiate event as she took gold in the women's high jump with a season-best mark of 1.74m/5-8.5, defeating teammate Kamiya Dendy who cleared the same height but with more misses.
In the men's hammer throw, Kyle Brown, Ebel and Kyle Moison went 2-3-4 in the event with Brown (65.08m/213-6) and Moison (56.73m/186-1) posting career-best marks. Kylee Carter also grabbed silver with a mark of 56.17m/184-3 in the women's javelin throw, the fifth-best throw in school history.
Dontavious Hill and freshman TJ Funches both cleared 2.12m/6-11.5 in the men's high jump to finish second and third respectively, with Funches' mark a new PR by nearly five inches. Sophomore pole vaulter Matthew Asplund was the Tigers' seventh silver medalist of the meet after notching a personal-best clearance of 4.90m/16-0.75.
Auburn collectively posted 24 new career or collegiate bests with Jocelynn Budwig, David Edmondson, Hope Igbinoghene, John Murray and Alex Spyridonidis each with two new bests.
The Tigers will return to the Sunshine State next weekend to compete at the Florida Relays, April 2-3, in Gainesville, Fla.
