AUBURN, Ala. – Fall season is officially underway and the men of Auburn golf are ready to build upon the hard work put in last season. After graduating a large, experienced senior class, head coach Nick Clinard has ushered in a wave of fresh talent with four freshman and one new assistant coach. As the fall semester rolls along, we will take a closer look at the men who are taking that step up to the next level and beginning their careers on The Plains.
First to tee off for the Tigers is the freshman sensation out of Austin, Texas, Evan Vo.
Q: Why did you choose to continue your career at Auburn?
Vo: I chose Auburn because I believed that the coaching staff and the culture established here would help me become successful in all aspects of my life.
Q: Who have been your biggest supporters throughout your career?
Vo:My biggest supporters are my family. They have believed in me even at my lows and they continue to guide me down the right path.
Q: What is your favorite memory from your time at Auburn thus far?
Vo: Our trip to Arizona was pretty fun. We got to play two nice golf courses, and it was my first college tournament, so I'll never forget it.
Q: What is your major and what do you plan to do with it?
Vo: I'm majoring in business analytics, hopefully I won't need to use it on tour – haha, but it's still a great degree to fall back on.
Q: If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Vo: I will eat pasta seven days a week, if I can. I'd have to go with something like chicken parm or pasta carbonara.
Q: If you were to be stranded on a deserted island, what three teammates would be essential for you to bring with you?
Vo: I would bring (Austin) Coggin for sure because all he talks about is hunting, so we could just let him loose. I would also bring Ryan (Eshleman) because he's a good cook, and then Max (Johnson) since he's an engineer.
Q: What is your advice to younger guys who want to play golf at the next level?
Vo: I always tell the younger kids back home to be the hardest worker in the room and to have unwavering self-belief.
Q: In one word, how would you describe coach Clinard?
Vo: Determined.
Q: What is an interesting fact about yourself that the Auburn family should know?
Vo: I used to play soccer and, at the time, I was just as good at it as I was in golf. I had to pick between the two sports when I was 11 and decided on golf because I liked the mental challenge that came with it.
Q: What is your favorite course you have ever played on?
Vo: Torrey Pines in San Diego would have to be my favorite course. The perfect weather and ocean views are hard to beat.
Q: If we made a movie about your life, who would you cast in the starring role?
Vo: My brother, Keaton, could probably play me. Although he isn't as good looking, we are about the same size and he knows me as well as anyone.
Q: If you were allowed to have any animal as a pet, which would you choose?
Vo: Well, I love dogs, so I would most likely just rescue one from a shelter.
Q: What is your message to the Auburn family regarding this season?
Vo: With a preseason rank of 29, it's safe to say that no one outside of Auburn really believes in us. We will play with that chip on our shoulder and prove to the world just how good we really are.
